ICES advises that when the EU multiannual plan (MAP) for the Western waters and adjacent waters is applied, catches in 2021 that correspond to the F ranges in the plan are between 2036 tonnes and 4814 tonnes. According to the MAP, catches higher than those corresponding to FMSY (3483 tonnes) can only be taken under conditions specified in the MAP, whilst the entire range is considered precautionary when applying the ICES advice rule. Note: This advice sheet is abbreviated due to the COVID-19 disruption. The previous advice issued for 2020 is attached as Annex 1.

Footnotes
*
Total catch is calculated based on projected landings and the assumed projected discard ratio (2.5%).
**
“Projected landings” and “projected discards” are used to describe fish that would be landed and discarded based on the average discard rate estimate of 2015–2019 (2.5%).
