ICES advises that when the EU multiannual plan (MAP) for Western Waters and adjacent waters is applied, catches in 2026 that correspond to the F ranges in the plan are between 1 163 tonnes and 1 751 tonnes. According to the MAP, catches higher than those corresponding to FMSY (1 721 tonnes) can only be taken under conditions specified in the MAP, while the entire range is considered precautionary when applying the ICES advice rule. The use of a combined species total allowable catch (TAC) for the two anglerfish species, black-bellied anglerfish (Lophius budegassa) and white anglerfish (Lophius piscatorius), prevents effective control of the single-species exploitation rates and could lead to the overexploitation of either species.

The probability of SSB being to be below Blim in 2027. This probability relates to the short-term probability of SSB <; Blim and is not comparable to the long-term probability of SSB <; Blim tested in simulations when estimating fishing mortality reference points.
